Now THIS is the way to start the day
The lovely lady who won the books I auctioned for the AAR Disaster Relief fund emailed me today to say she got them. Which was great in itself, since the original batch I sent to the woman coordinating the auction are apparently sitting somewhere in the D.C. post office being checked for Anthrax or something, so I had to send the winner a second group. But it was the note itself that made me tear up. Seems this gal had bought — new, bless her heart — nearly everything I’ve written, which was enough in itself. Except then she went on to say that, as far as she was concerned, my Men of Mayes County series was tied for first with Linda Howard’s MacKenzies and Suz Brockmann’s Tall, Dark and Dangerous SEAL stories as her all-time favorites.
Wow.
That more than makes up for the chica who eviscerated a couple of my earlier SIMs on her blog a while back. Not that I have a problem with evisceration, in principle, it’s just nice to rack up a few points in the plus column every now and then, too.
It’s very gray here this morning, with one of those why-isn’t-it-raining? skies. I got up at 3 to wrap birthday presents (I call it constructive insomnia) to find #5 and his cohort still awake, having made a tent out of sleeping bags using, among other things, my office chair. I took back the chair, much to their supreme annoyance. However, when I got up about an hour ago, I noticed the bottom bunk was draped in the sleeping bags. I presume there’s a pair of sacked-out little boys in there somewhere. Good thing the movie doesn’t start until 4:30, ‘cause they may not be awake before then.
God willing.
